The Ramblings of a Menopausal Woman

All my life I felt very middle of the road when it came to politics. I have always believed that bipartisanship is the key to a successful government. After all, compromise can be the key to a successful relationship and a country working together is stronger than a country divided. I’m worried those days are behind us now. Maybe only for a few years or maybe longer, who knows? I know that I’m not willing to compromise when it comes to hateful rhetoric.

You know how people used to always say things like “I’m socially liberal and fiscally conservative.”? I knew some people who couldn’t wrap their minds around that, said it was a copout. But I think it just shows there’s probably a huge portion of the population in that middle section. A group of people that want the government to be financially responsible but also want to government to stay out of our personal lives. I’m in that group.

So I am not really a Democrat or a Republican. I don’t think I have ever thought either party had it completely figured out. I used to vote for any party, as long as I was behind what that candidate stood for. I voted for people, not parties. I’m not really sure exactly when political parties started morphing into a sports team type support. Where people will defend their team regardless of whether or not they are doing their jobs well. What if you think both teams suck at certain points? What if you don’t want to pick a side? That used to be okay, no one cared. Now, you have to choose. I picked basic human kindness. I guess for the purposes of this post, you can put me on the left side because the right is seriously fucked up right now and not the party it used to be. I miss nice sane Republicans.

I just want people to be able to live their best life. Whatever that may be. I want them to wake up without fear of being attacked. I want them to be able to go to a decent job that covers their rent/mortgage and bills. I don’t want them to worry that a single medical emergency could bankrupt them or put them in debt for the rest of their lives. It doesn’t matter if I agree with their life choices, because it has ZERO effect on my life. As long as you aren’t hurting someone one else, I don’t give a fuck what you do.

If there’s someone who finds themselves pregnant and they are not thrilled about it, I don’t think they should be forced to have that child. It seems to me like there’s a greater chance of increasing the poverty levels and having children grow up in homes where they are unwanted or unloved, and that sounds awful.

Why not do things to make it easier for people be happy to welcome a new baby? Like increasing the minimum wage, reducing housing costs, paid maternity/paternity leave, affordable health care, affordable college tuition? If someone wants/needs an abortion, it is none of my, or anyone else’s, fucking business why. I never understood why people using a religious argument cared if a stranger’s soul is damned. I’ve never read the Bible, so correct me if I’m wrong but does Satan get stronger when he gets another soul? Like when Popeye eats spinach? Is that a thing?

I absolutely think there should be immigration reform. 100% But do I think people should be deported from their scheduled immigration appointments? No fucking way! Do I think kids that are in high school and have been in this country as long as they can remember be picked up on their way to high school volleyball practice and deported because they’re legal adults now? No fucking way! Are these the “vicious criminals” the current administration keeps screaming about? This one really gets me pissed off. These kids, albeit legal adults, didn’t choose to come here but were raised in the US almost their entire lives. They are now forced go to a country they may or may not have ever been to since they left as a small child. How cruel is that? To tear some high school senior/college student’s entire life away from them because of something from their childhood that was not their fault. Just because of where they were born. It doesn’t matter these kids have spent most of their lives as Americans. It’s just so heartless. How are people okay with this? There are more stories about kids like this here.

When it comes to health care I have always thought if politicians really wanted to make an impact on health care, how about working harder on reigning in those medication costs? For instance, why is advertising prescription medication even legal? Shouldn’t that be between the patient and doctor to choose the right medication? Seems to me that all that fancy advertising is going to add to the cost of my medication at the pharmacy. Maybe without that additional expense, my insurance company won’t make me go through three medications that don’t work before they will cover the one that does.

Let’s be real, none of the things above will probably happen in the near future, if ever. Senators, Representatives, Presidents all used to be positions of dignity. People you could let your child stay up and watch speak without worrying what they might say. Whatever is going on right now with these folks is not cool. Now all that they want to do is fight with each other and accomplish nothing while in session.

Sorry y’all, I guess I am annoyed today. In my defense, I did warn you that I wasn’t sure what this blog would end up being. I will try and stay away from politics as much as possible but that stupid parade was such a waste of resources at a time when everything is being cut. It’s illogical. And I find that annoying.

Then those poor people from Minnesota. Murdered in cold blood in the middle of the night. Today I find out he also killed their family Golden Retriever. Fuck that guy. At first, all the talk was who side was this guy associated with. It doesn’t fucking matter. He murdered two people, and tried to take out more. He had a list of over 70 names!

The real fucked up thing is only a few hours later the fucking President of the United States fucking posts on social media, “These Radical Left Democrats are sick of mind, hate our Country, and actually want to destroy our Inner Cities — And they are doing a good job of it!” What the actual fuck? Dude, stop fanning the flames! Did you forget you posted condolences only a few hours before?

One thing I do find interesting, is the fact that the right puts out so many lies about how they perceive people on the left to be, they have started to believe them. You see these posts making fun of the peaceful and tolerant left.

“0h so this is the tolerant left?”, when a Nazi got his ass kicked at Punk Rock Bowling. “The left is so violent”, under a photo of a someone spray painting graffiti saying “Fuck ICE”.

Tolerance of someone’s personal sexuality or life choices, does not mean tolerance when someone is being a complete asshole. Peaceful? Maybe, on a good day. I know I’m generally a peaceful person but I will destroy you if you come after my friends or family. The far right have convinced themselves that the left won’t do anything because they view kindness as weakness.
