Birthdays are supposed to be fun. They are supposed to be the day you celebrate. Personally, I like a month long celebration. Much to my husband’s dismay. This year I think he’ll allow it because my actual birthday did not go according to plan.
Sunday morning started out good. I felt okay from my surgery on Wednesday, and had pulled my urethral stent out the day before.
Pulling the stent went way better than I originally anticipated. I was scared and had to hype myself up for about an hour or two before I could actually do it. Then when it was time, it came out easy peasy. I did have a couple of episodes of some significant pain Saturday night and Sunday morning but figured it was residual pain from pulling the stent Saturday afternoon. Plus as long as I took my meds, I seemed okay besides those two episodes.
Back to my birthday! It was a lazy morning while we tried to figure out some sort of plan. Normally we will have some idea but this year was up in the air since we couldn’t predict how I would feel on my birthday. Clay got me a great birthday gift, a Ninja Creami Deluxe. I was so excited thinking about all the frozen treats I could make.

After my present, we decided to go to Gussie’s for brunch. Since my birthday fell on Mother’s Day this year, going out for brunch can be difficult, but Gussie’s came through for us. I ordered the Breakfast of Champions, bowl of grits, and a Mimosa. My day was starting out great!

The next order of business was to go get pedicures with some friends. Clay even let me pick out whatever color I wanted for his toes. I chose a lovely hot pink color. I had just finished my pedicure and was waiting for the others when things started going downhill. My back started hurting and all of sudden the pain was becoming unbearable. My friend Katie rushed me home because Clay’s feet weren’t done yet. This is why men should also get regular pedicures. Take care of your feet folks!
Things went from bad to worse on the drive home. I made my friend Katie run as many lights or stop signs as possible (while remaining safe) to get me home.
I got home and took my heavy pain meds and a med I had for spasms. Katie helped me get in a hot bath and took care of me until Clay got home. Everything kept getting worse. Clay got home and decided I was going back to the hospital. I agreed with him but by then I could no longer get off the floor. I told him to call 911 because there was no way I could get in the car on my own.

I was on my way back to the hospital. What a super fun birthday celebration, right? We ended up being there the rest of the day and left around 1am. They did 2 CTs, with and without contrast. No new stones, but my right kidney and right ureter looked swollen. I was given new meds and some new antibiotics. Hopefully I can get some relief soon and put this behind me.
FUN FACT: The medication I take for bladder/kidney spasms makes my pee turn orange. The new antibiotics they put me will make my poop orange. My insides must look so fucked up right now. I’m part pumpkin! Too bad it’s not fall.
